How to book SBB
Search live SBB journeys on EuroRail Times and continue to All Aboard to buy. Start with domestic Zurich → Geneva or cross-border Zurich → Milan via the Gotthard Base Tunnel.
Reservation rules
Domestic SBB trains rarely require reservations. Glacier Express, Bernina Express and some international EuroCity services do — reserve those early in peak season.
Price tips for 2026
Supersaver tickets can cut Swiss long-distance fares sharply when available. Half Fare Card / Swiss Travel Pass holders should check live discounts before buying.
What SBB is
SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) is Switzerland’s national operator: dense InterCity / InterRegio timetables plus EuroCity links such as Zurich → Milan (Gotthard Base Tunnel) and Zurich–Munich. Domestic SBB is a turn-up-and-go railway compared with French or Italian high-speed: you need a valid ticket, not usually a reserved seat.
Key routes
From this hub: Zurich → Geneva, Zurich → Milan, Zurich–Milan corridor guide, Basel, Bern, Lucerne and Munich–Zurich. Panorama products (Glacier Express, Bernina Express) are separate reserved seats — see the Glacier & Bernina guide linked below.
Pass vs point-to-point ticket
Interrail/Eurail covers SBB; panorama trains still need a paid reservation. A Swiss Travel Pass can beat several domestic point-to-point tickets if you ride often inside Switzerland. International EuroCity to Italy needs a reservation — do not treat a domestic “no reservation” rule as applying to Zurich–Milan.
How to book on this page
The Book CTA opens the existing All Aboard widget for Zurich → Geneva. Supersaver and Half Fare / Swiss Travel Pass discounts depend on the live offer; this page does not invent a Swiss fare band. Confirm the ticket type before you pay.
